Dock Fielder's granddaughter to challenge Carlisle

Former 12th ward democratic committee chairman Dock Fielder's granddaughter, Leah Kirkland, is the latest entrant to the crowded field to unseat city councilwoman Twanda Carlisle. Because of her political lineage, Kirkland's candidacy commands attention. If she inherited any of the political street smarts of her grandfather, she would be a formidable challenger to Carlisle.

However, if residents of the 9th council district have any hope at all of replacing Carlisle, the list of candidates needs to be pared and the voters mobilized behind one challenger. As it currently stands, the vote will be split too many ways, posturing Carlisle to cruise to victory.

What a nightmare. I did a post about the far-too-many-candidates in this race a few weeks ago. These people all seem motivated by Carlilse's behavior over the past few years. They all seem to want her to go. And, collectively, they are handing her everything she needs to retain her office.

Very interesting because Dock Fielder works out of District Justice Kevin Coopers office and guess who else is in the race? Kevin Coopers young daughter.

That is a very interesting observation, Matt.

Doc is an elected constable, thus he does not answer to Cooper. Cooper may send his work elsewhere (and perhaps already is), but Doc is not an employee of Cooper.

I never said he was an employee of Kevin Cooper but it's ironic that he gets a TON of work from his office and then his grand daughter gets in the race.

That district is in trouble no matter how you look at it.

Also...he has not sent his work elsewhere. At my work we recently used the Constable service.
